Malia Wellwerts

 

Malia Wellwerts grew up in Illinois and began dancing at the age of 7 at the Judith Svalander School of Ballet. She quickly fell in love with dance, and has been passionate about the performative arts ever since. She has had the privilege of training at the Lynch Dance Institute, dancing as a Trainee at Ballet West and Ballet West Academy, and is currently a Second Company member for the Oklahoma City Ballet. She received the Bené Arnold Full Scholarship from Ballet West Academy in 2023-2024, as well as Partial Scholarships with Ballet West Academy and Oklahoma City Ballet in 2022-2023 and 2024-2026 respectively. 

Malia has been honored to receive training from world-renowned Dancers, Choreographers, and Faculty such as Evelyn Cisneros-Legate, Kathryn Lawrence, Jeff Rogers, Adam Sklute, Ryan Jolicoeur-Nye, and Racheal Nye. She has danced Principle and Corps de Ballet roles at BWA and OKCB Studio Company in ballets and excerpts such as Paquita, Coppelia, Napoli, Satanella, Who Cares?, Divertimento No. 15, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and Romeo and Juliet, as well as featured roles in pieces such as Les Petits Riens by Ashley Bouder, Tides of Time by Mimmo Miccolis, Fever Dream by Josh Whitehead, and Dia De Los Muertos by Maria Konrad.
