Virginia Laakman

After receiving classical training from world-renowned ballet master Henry Danton and attending the Alabama School of Fine Arts boarding school for dance, Virginia Laakman moved to Oklahoma from Mississippi to become a Dance Performance major at Oklahoma City University's Ann Lacey School of Dance and Entertainment.  While in college, Virginia taught the advanced level Jazz classes at Range of Motion.  After her first few years dancing with the American Spirit dance company and a summer performing at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Virginia changed her major to Broadcasting and joined OCU's first-ever competitive POM team where they became National Champions in the NAIA.  She graduated OCU with a degree in communications.  She proceeded to receive a law degree from her alma mater and practiced law for 10 years.  Virginia now has three daughters and strives to show her girls that growth and education never stops.  She is currently switching gears to a career in counseling by pursuing a master's in mental health and dreams to incorporate dance therapy in her future practice.  Virginia has always made dance and movement a priority in her life, often subbing here at ROM and obtaining her certification as a CrossFit instructor.  She offers a unique blend of athleticism and dance technique in her teaching style, and loves to focus on the physical and mental aspects of conquering new skills.  We are excited to have her leading this new opportunity for our dance community. Welcome back to ROM Virginia!
